Blackboard Vista: Customizing Your Course

Global color selections will affect the display of Course Content Home, Folders, and tool pages. It will not affect the colors within HTML pages you have or will upload to the section. You can use a predefined color set, which applies a consistent color scheme throughout the section, or you can create a custom color set. Blackboard Vista has a high contrast color set, which enables users who have visual disabilities to use Blackboard Vista more effectively.

Step 1: Access the Colors Screen

  1. From the Build tab in the “Designer Tools” area or from the Teach Tab in the “Instructor Tools” area, click Manage Course. The Manage Course screen is displayed (not illustrated).
  2. Click the Colors link. The Colors screen is displayed.

Step 2: Select Color Set

  1. In the “Color Set” area, select a set by selecting the radio button next to a set.
  2. In the “Preview” area, you can view the color set.
  3. If you do not like the color set, repeat steps 1 and 2.
  4. If you would like to use the color set, click Apply.

You can further customize your section by changing the appearance of Home Page or Folders by modifying the layout of icons and the background image or color.

Step 3: Access the Customize Page Display Screen

  1. From the Build tab, click Page Options. The ActionLinks menu is displyaed.
  2. Select Customize Page Display. The Customize Page Display screen is displayed.

Step 4: Select a Layout Template

  1. In the “Layout Templates” area, select a layout by selecting the radio button next to the layout.
  2. In the “Layout Preview” area, you can view the layout.
  3. If you do not like the layout, repeat steps 1 and 2.

Step 5: Open Color Palette

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the screen (not illustrated).
  2. In the "Background Color" area, click Select Color. A color palette window is displayed.

Step 6: Select a Color

  1. In the color palette window, click a color.
  2. The color is displayed in the "Color Preview:" area.
  3. If you do not like the color, click a different color (not illustrated).
  4. Click Select. The Customize Page Display screen is displayed.

Step 7: Apply the Settings

  1. The color you chose is displayed in the color box to the left of the "Select Color" button.
  2. Click Apply to accept the settings. The Home Page is displayed (not illustrated).
