Using Audio in Blackboard Vista:
Linking to Audio Files in your Course

PDF version of this document: LinkingToAudioFiles.pdf [722 KB].

After you have uploaded the audio files into your course File Manager, you have to create links to them. Then your students can listen to the MP3 files. In this handout, you will create a new folder on the Home Page and link to them there. Please note, though, that you can link to the files anywhere in your course where you can Add Files.

Step 1: Create a New Folder

  1. On the Build tab, on the Home Page, click Create Folder. The Create Folder page opens.

Step 2: Name the Folder

  1. In the Title text box, type in a name for the folder. In the example, we will enter: Audio Activities.
  2. If you want, you can also type in more information about the content of the folder in the Description text box. In the example, we will type: Audio files from the textbook in MP3 format.
  3. Click Save. The new folder appears on the Home Page.

Step 8: Test the MP3 Files

  1. When you test the files, you may see the Windows Media Player message: "The download of the specified resource has failed." This is a known Windows Media Player behavior in Blackboard Vista that you can ignore.
NOTE: Other browsers should play the files with no error messages.
  2. Click Close.
